I’ve been researching female sensuality. I believe that at a young age, women are taught to restrict themselves. From the twitch in their hips to covering up their collarbone, and silencing their voices. It’s no brainer that the world tries to fit women into a box. So, that makes me question, due to all the limitations, does that mean that women are far more powerful than the world tries to make us think?
Despite the box that tries to trap us, I love being a woman; I love everything about being me. From my menstrual cycle, to the shape of my body, my natural beauty, the tone of my voice, and my vagina, lol. However, it took time to get here, and I am still peeling back any limiting beliefs that I normalized in my heart and mind that may be preventing me from embracing my womanhood fully. It’s a journey, but I love the effort I am putting into it daily. From simply taking in deep breaths, relaxing my shoulders, napping when needed, taking my time rather than rushing, and listening to my intuition. It’s a beautiful thing to be attuned with yourself.
Along with my studies, I’ve been spending some time listening to podcasts about sensuality and womanhood. I’ve also been watching films like “Catwoman” (2004) and reading books written by Black woman authors like Bell Hooks. One piece of advice that resonated with me is the importance of taking your time.
Work with time – Balance your energy even when under pressure. It is easy to feel stressed when you’re running late. I understand the feeling of wanting to get things out of the way quickly. However, I believe that stress can make you ill. I’ve seen what it’s done to some folks in my family, so I am actively building a life where I don’t stress myself out. Taking your time is another way of being mindful. That can look like eating slowly, taking a leisurely walk, or practicing speaking at a slower pace as well. It’s to be more present in the things you do. Not all stress is bad; it’s helpful during dire situations as a form of protection, and there will be times when you’re running late, but even then, I like to take a deep breath and say, “I will get there”.
To learn more about tapping into your alter ego through sensuality, I listed below a podcast for you to listen to, along with an article that talks about the impact of stress.
