4 Major Tips to Know When Getting Braces

Having braces has pushed me to take better care of my teeth. I had no choice but to do so because my lazy habits had led me to having inflamed gums. But if you are getting braces and want to avoid this, I am going to share tips that will help prepare you.

Tip #1: Have fun!

The best way to have fun with your braces is to change the colors of the rubber bands every appointment. Your orthodontist will have tons of colors for you to choose from, like pink, purple, turquoise, and yellow. I tried most of the colors they had, but my go-to colors are gold or silver. To make it worthwhile, you can combine colors for the holidays, like pink and red for Valentine’s Day. Or you can keep it simple and use white. So take advantage and discover what color complements your complexion.

Tip #2: Floss your teeth!

I didn’t think flossing was important when I was younger. I faced the repercussions of that when I got braces. My gums puffed up awfully to the point that most of my teeth were covered. Flossing reduces the swelling tremendously. What helped me was using this floss; it’s designed for braces. I was also advised to brush my gums for 10 minutes using diluted hydrogen peroxide to help make the swelling go down. Along with getting frequent cleanings to maintain healthy and strong teeth.

Tip #3: Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

When brushing my teeth, I prefer to use toothpaste that is either fluoride-free or contains natural ingredients because I like to use ingredients that I know how to identify and spell. To learn about the benefits of using fluoride-free toothpaste, you can read more here. Therefore, I like using David’s toothpaste, such as the Davids Hydroxi™ sensitive+whitening nano hydroxyapatite premium toothpaste/peppermint. I have trouble drinking cold beverages and sweets without my teeth feeling irritated, but David’s toothpaste has helped reduce the sensitivity.
