Period Pain Relief: Tea Edition Pt.1

I remember the first time I had my period, I was in the 8th grade. I was at school and I remember feeling cold and sick. I was also irritable and uncomfortable. I definitely knew that it was my period. When I was younger, I always enjoyed learning about body care.

My favorite book to read at the time was the American Girl’s series, The Care & Keeping of You. It prepared me for what getting my period would be like.

Now I use my Samsung Health app to track when my next period will come, especially during the moments I act crazier than usual. It’s reassuring.

Even as an adult, I am still learning how to embrace my period. Every month, I dreaded the pain I would feel on the first two days. Sometimes the pain was so unbearable I would curl up in a ball on the floor because my body would hurt everywhere including in my joints. On top of that, my toes were ice cold.

Being the holistic woman I am, thanks to my mother and grandmother, I figured out that drinking ginger tea helps relieve pain during my period. The first time I had it, it was like a miracle. I felt nothing or if I did, it was mild.

Benefits:

  • Reduces Stress – Promotes relaxation and reduces stress levels.
  • Enhances Immunity – Contains antioxidants that strengthen your immune system.
  • Improves Blood Circulation – Enhance blood flow.
  • Reduces Menstrual Cramps – Anti-inflammatory effects help relieve cramps.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Relief – Reduces pain & inflammation from bloating and joint pain.
  • Reduces Tenderness – Eases sore/breast tenderness.

The list goes on and on but these are a few of the highlights that stood out to me.

Sometimes I would try to drink ginger tea days before my period. So, the discomfort would subside beforehand. But if I forgot, to help kick start the tea the day of my period, is a nice hot shower, chocolate, and a nap while wrapped up in layers of clothing. Sometimes exercise would help too.

If you have awful PMS symptoms, give ginger tea a try then, leave a comment if you notice a difference.

*Friendly reminder: I’m not a medical professional—try ginger tea for mild period relief at your own expense, and remember to consult your healthcare provider!*
